You will be safely guided into the jungle by our trip coordinator and translators. Reaching Secoyan territory requires a 4×4 and sometimes multiple canoes. Traditionally, the Siekopai have sparsely inhabited the river basins, which means canoe is the only effective manner of transportation in between Secoyan Families and different communities as they live spread through-out the forest and are not congregated in a single village or city.
Who are the Siekopai?
The Siekopai, also known as the Secoya in Spanish, are a culture indigenous to the Napo River region, located in the Upper Amazonian River Basin of Ecuador and Peru.
They have inhabited their territory for thousands of years, and are one of the oldest surviving Amazonian tribes in existence. Traditionally, they lived a nomadic lifestyle, and traveled in small family units throughout the jungle, relying on hunting, fishing, and gathering fruits for survival. For thousands of years they managed to live in total harmony with their surrounding ecosystem, and thrived in great numbers.
